The CEO of Shelter, which is campaigning against letting agents’ fees, is to speak at the ARLA conference.
Campbell Robb will appear at the event on March 26.
ARLA included the information in a statement to Letting Agent Today, following our story last week about NALS acting as an industry go-between with Shelter.
Although ARLA’s statement was uploaded to our story when we received it later that day, many of you may have missed it. The statement is as follows:
“We strive to work with a wide variety of organisations across the sector to help foster informed debate about issues that are important to both consumers and members, and ARLA has engaged with Shelter on several occasions over recent months with this in mind.
“Indeed, we were pre-briefed on the recent report by Shelter, and in reflection of this ongoing relationship, ARLA MD Ian Potter recently shared a speaking opportunity with Kay Boycott from Shelter.
“Further, Shelter CEO Campbell Robb will be speaking at the ARLA annual conference on 26th March in order that members can hear both sides of the debate.”

shelter do not like letting agents and see them as unnecessary burden on tenants in terms of fees
as the going says 'keep your friends close and your enemies even closer'!!!!
Here we have an issue which could present a very serious challenge to the busienss model of most agents in England & Wales and thanks to the "clarification" of pre-existing legislation could bankrupt many Scottish agencies.
What does NALS do? Try to get mileage out of bigging themselves up. Just what we needed.
I assume that like me everyone realises that this is a panic move by ARLA. Clearly they are trying to woo Shelter as otherwise they'd be the last speakers you'd have at Conference, where usually attendees like to hear messages they appreciate!!!
It's really important that ARLA continues to engage with organisations like Shelter- both to hear their views but also for Shelter to better understand what it is that reputable agents are trying to do.
So well done to ARLA fro this.
