With identify fraud rising, it has never been more important to know exactly who your prospective tenant is.

Find out as much as you can about them, get proper references, see their latest bank statements and utility bills – and don’t take anything they say at face value.

Most of all, never be pressurised into letting anyone move in too quickly.

    the wight of btl is so clearly favoured towards the landlord it beggars belief

    tenants are scum and each one a potential frauster seems to be the message

    whereas in fact its landlords who are more likely to be dodgy or fraudulent..thats assuming they are paying the mortgage

    In Scotland we have the Landlord Registration Scheme. The result being that the local authority should have carried out due dilligence prior to authorising the Landlord.

    It is bogus and bent Landlords that are the higher risk in relation to property fraud and money laundering. BTL has always been a favourite for organised crime. It is the Landlord's credentials that agents should be focusing on.

    The closure of www.foolthem.com helped combat I.D. fraud in a major way. Does anyone know if there is a infant foolthem up & running yet??
