A police force is appealling to landlords and letting agents to allow their void privately-let properties to be used as potential 'traps' for criminals.
The South Yorkshire force says it wants properties to use in Sheffield throughout the autumn and winter period. In particular it is seeking landlords and agents with properties in the Hunters Bar, Broomhill, Crookes and Walkey areas, but is also interested in possible properties elsewhere in Sheffield.
The force says it would need to use part of the ground floor of a property, but promises minimal disruption for agents and landlords.
Installation of equipment can be arranged quickly and the use of any one property could be for short periods of time to fit in with typical void periods.
In a report carried on the National Landlords Association’s website, it is suggested that the force may under certain circumstances offer a 'lay' rent for the period used.
