The chief executive of Braemore, one of the highest profile letting agencies in Scotland, says he wants greater regulation for the sector north of the border.
Malcolm Cannon says he wants more regulation “looking, in particular, at deposits, client accounts and training” to avoid the industry being damaged by “rogue agents and non-compliant landlords acting at the edges of acceptable practice.”
Cannon was speaking at the launch of TPO Scotland, a branch of The Propertry Ombudsman.
Brian Moran, area lettings director in Scotland for Your Move - also at the launch - said TPO’s code of practice for Scotland “is now fully reflective of the different approach from the rest of the UK to property transactions in the country".
The Scottish Government has recently launched a consultation which is likely to result in significant reforms throughout the private rental sector.
