The local council in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea is starting an investigation into the private rental sector within its boundaries.
“We are currently gathering evidence directly from local residents who rent privately. We want to know how they are effected by sharply rising rents and how they judge the standard of their accommodation” says a council spokesman.
“We are also asking about their experience of dealing with private landlords and letting agencies and if they feel secure in their tenancy. We are seeking this information because we know high rents and lack of suitable affordable housing are major concerns in this borough.”
The exhaustive 36-question online survey covers rents, whether tenants deal with agents or directly with landlords, past evictions, the experiences of tenants who complain about problems, and one specific question: “what is the worst experience you have had in your accommodation?”
The latest Rightmove house price index says the average home on sale in RBK&C is a huge £2,467,876 - some 5.1 per cent more than a year ago.

"£2,467,876" - The world has gone officially mad!

I think, if they live in Kensington and Chelsea, they won't be too concerned about sharply rising rents and sub-standard accommodation.
An average of £2,467,876! It is genuinely shocking that Central London's prices have risen so incredibly rapidly.
The results should make for interesting reading, although I can't see that the poor people of Kensington and Chelsea would be too effected by their rent rise if I'm honest.
