Lettings chiefs have responded with disappointment to the government’s announcement that it is scrapping the Green Deal.
The scheme offered cashbacks and incentives to landlords and owner occupiers on such insulation, boilers and other energy efficiency improvements.
The Department for Energy and Climate Change says it took the decision to protect taxpayers, citing low take-up and concerns about industry standards.
But David Cox, managing director of the Association of Residential Lettings Agents says the decision will mean that the deadlines outlined for private rented properties to acquire an Energy Performance Certificate rating of an E may become impossible to implement.
“The Green Deal allowed landlords to make their properties energy efficient at no upfront cost to themselves, and without the funding, how can these regulations be implemented? We are calling on the government to review these changes, as a matter of urgency” says Cox.

Any landlords that are reading this and already have a draft Green Deal Plan must act now. Landlords often need the extra funding to ensure their property is energy efficient and it's unfair that this is about to be taken away.
It's a real shame that this no longer appears to be going ahead! It's certainly disappointing for landlords now and a step back for energy efficiency.
