The National Approved Letting Scheme has acted about the mystery surrounding the future of east of England letting agency Kirby Property Management.
The issue was publicised at the end of last week here on Letting Agent Today.
The firm, which had offices at Cambourne, Cambridge and St Neots, has not opened any of its branches for around a week.
An agent in the area, Iain Lattimore of Your Move, kindly contacted LAT to explain that there was speculation in the area that rumoured attempts by another agency to buy Kirby had stalled earlier in July, before the branches shut mysteriously.
Local media outlets reported concerned landlords and tenants visiting the offices, only to find them shut.
LAT has repeatedly attempted to contact Kirby by telephone and email, to no avail.
Now a statement given to LAT by Isobel Thomson, chief executive of the National Approved Lettings Scheme, reads:
"We are aware of the sudden closure of Kirby Property Management who were previously part of NALS. We would advise any landlords or tenants who have any concerns to speak with Cambridgeshire Police in the first instance.
"Landlords may also wish to register with NALS who [sic] operate a Client Money Protection System and may, in certain circumstances, be able to assist. Telephone 01242 581712 or email info@nalscheme.co.uk."
