A letting agent is reported to have lied to police about his name when he was tracked down by officers investigating a car accident.
The Blackpool Gazette says William Copeland, 27 and from London, has now pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and failing to report an accident.
Blackpool Magistrates court heard that a witness telephoned police to report an accident in the town and claimed two men in the crashed Volkswagen ran off.
When Copeland was tracked down by police a breath test showed he still had 90 microgrammes of alcohol in his body - well over the 35 microgrammes limit - and Copeland gave a different name.
He eventually admitted his identify, and that he had lost control of the car in wet conditions on his return from a visit to his family.
Copeland has been disqualified from driving for 23 months, fined £660 with £85 costs and ordered to pay a £150 court charge plus £60 victims' surcharge.
