Agency says tenants choose property based partly on who landlord is

Your Move says almost half of prospective tenants place extreme importance on who their landlord will be when deciding where to rent.

In a research project involving questioning over 2,000 renters, some 48 per cent felt it of major importance to know something about the landlord - information that was crucial for the tenants deciding whether to take the property.

Value for money was of course also important - although only to 45 per cent of tenants surveyed - with the state of the property key for 52 per cent.

The data also revealed that only 38 per cent of tenants recognize property location as ‘extremely important’ when picking a new home.

Respondents also revealed a high level of satisfaction when renting, with 66 per cent of all tenants either ‘happy’ or ‘very happy’ with their current circumstances, compared to only 15 per cent who answered as ‘unhappy’ or ‘very unhappy’.

“It’s not just about where you actually live anymore, but also the condition of the property as well as whose roof you’re living under, that are collectively important to tenants these days” claims Valerie Bannister, head of lettings at Your Move.

“It reflects our findings that the landlord's willingness to respond to reasonable requests from tenants, for property improvements etc, is viewed as extremely important when a tenant makes their decision to rent” she continues.
