SafeDeposits Scotland has announced that Ian Potter will succeed Sir Andrew Cubie as the organisation's chairman.
Potter, who has been on the SafeDeposits Scotland board since 2012, has spent over 25 years working in the Private Rented Sector and has been a key contributor to development of industry legislation over the years.
The new chairman was formerly associate partner with Fineholm Letting Services and has also worked for Countrywide Residential Lettings.
Between 2006 and 2014, Potter worked for the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA).
In the past, he has worked with both the Scottish and English governments on the development of policy regarding tenancy deposit protection.
He was a representative director of the first voluntary scheme in England, the Tenancy Deposit Scheme for Regulated Agents, which evolved into TDS and was involved in the steering group who set up SafeDeposits Scotland.
“It is an honour to be elected to this position and to chair the board as the company continues to grow its share of the market,” says Potter.
“The protection of tenant deposits is a cornerstone of the private rental sector and thousands of lives are touched by the responsible management of the company.”
SafeDeposits Scotland currently holds over £73m of private rental deposits – approximately 60% of the Scottish market.
