A council is seeking to prevent letting agents and landlords from letting homes to students in an area of a city allegedly blighted by anti-social activities.
The Liverpool Echo newspaper claims that an area off Smithdown Road in the city’s Wavertree suburb is being considered for the ban by the local council.
This is following allegations of anti-social activities, badly-managed properties, excessive parking problems and rowdy tenants.
The paper says council officials believe the measures - even if they succeeded only in capping rather than reducing overall student resident numbers - would make the area a more attractive place for families.
The proposals involve changing the rules on HMOs - agents and landlords in the city are currently allowed to start letting out a family home to up to six students without specific consent, but the new proposals would see them forced to apply for council permission to do so for properties currently classed as ordinary family homes.
The newspaper has also reported in recent months that the area has become a victim of large-scale Airbnb-style short-term lets with a rise in complaints from permanent residents about parties and rowdy behaviour.

Typical "not news" story. Clearly the council are considering introducing a C4 planning class which means planning would be required for sharers. Not all sharers are students. You have a job excluding benefit tenants at the moment. Imagine trying to have a blanket ban on students. This website needs to work on its headlines.
