The Law Society of Scotland is urging letting agents to prepare for a new code of practice coming into force north of the border next year.
It means that the many solicitors who undertake lettings agency work in Scotland must abide by the new code once introduced on January 31 2018.
The code makes it compulsory for businesses to have Client Money Protection and Professional Indemnity Insurance. Letting agencies will be required to join a mandatory register of agents, and key individuals in an agency will be required to have met a minimum level of training.
The Scottish Government is developing further information and guidance, including on preparing for registration and the training required and the Law Society of Scotland says this is expected to be available from the end of this month.
