A local authority consultation exercise on a licensing system for local landlords has been postponed until June 12, four days after the General Election.
Telford & Wrekin council was to have started a consultation in April over proposals to charge landlords £610 each for a five-year licence; however, it has now been delayed because of the snap election called by Theresa May.
A spokesman for the council told the local media in the area that the proposed five-year selective licensing scheme would help landlords and letting agents “improve their properties and improve the quality of life”.
So far there has been no response from the Department of Communities and Local Government to a request by the Association of Residential Letting Agents for an extension or postponement of its consultation on the banning of letting agents’ fees levied on tenants in England; that is currently ongoing and is due to end on June 2, six days before the poll.
