Controversial Labour MP Stella Creasy has presented her annual awards to estate and letting agents in her London constituency of Walthamstow - with the same firm being nominated as the area’s best and worst lettings agency.
Only around 800 constituents voted and Creasy awarded best and worst lettings to Central Estates - and, for good measure, the same firm won both the best and worst sales agency titles, too.
Once feared by rental professionals for her apparently fearless opposition to letting agents’ fees, Creasy appears to have mellowed in her approach to the sector.
Director of Central Estates, Richard Maher, diplomatically told the Walthamstow Guardian that entering the awards “is never a waste of time” but it is “in effect a flawed system”.
Maher tells the paper that those voting could be basing their answers on outdated experiences with the company.
“I feel people have got the wrong impression of our company which is not based on our standard today. If you support Arsenal football team are you going to base your opinion on them on their performance twenty years ago?” he asks.
