The Association of Residential Letting Agents says it has so far received over 700 detailed responses to its consultation on the government’s proposal to ban agency fees levied on tenants in England.
Last month ARLA set up a dedicated email address for responses - lettingfees@arla.co.uk - and says it is still looking for further comments ahead of the closing date of May 16.
“All of the responses that you are sending to us are useful. This work is vital in ensuring that stakeholders understand the likely consequences of their actions when the time comes to vote and we are following up your engagement in Westminster” explains ARLA Propertymark chief executive David Cox.
He says the association’s response to the formal consultation process on the fees ban initiated by the government - a process which itself closes on June 2 - is to be informed by different processes.
These include the 700-plus responses to date, social media comments, monthly member surveys, briefing with major corporate agencies, feedback received through 70 events and regional conferences, dialogue involving ARLA regional reps, and research including independent economic analysis carried out by the Capital Economics consultancy “looking at the plausible outcomes from the ban.”
Yesterday we reported that ARLA wants tenant referencing costs explicitly excluded from any fees ban if one goes ahead.
