Agents invited to courses on new lettings energy requirements

Training organisation Solvo Vir is inviting letting agents and landlords to attend courses to bring them up to date with new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard regulations.

Under MEES, which come into effect on April 1 2018, it will be unlawful to let or lease a residential or commercial property with a poor energy rating.

Failure to comply means that after the April deadline, properties that do not meet the minimum standards cannot be re-let until improvements are made. If owners re-let, they could face a penalty fine of up to £5,000 for domestic properties.

All costs of the course have been covered by the funding meaning there is no charge to attend. The courses looks at:

- the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard Ruling and what it means;

- exemptions and how to register them;

- the minimal cost improvements you can make to improve a property’s EPC;

- other measures of property improvements and the funding/grants available;

- software that allows you to see exactly how planned changes would affect the EPC of a specific property.

These courses are continually running with various locations for the workshops around the country.

If you are interested in attending a course whilst the funding is still available please email energy@solvovir.co.uk with your name, your location/postcode, your phone number and which course you would like to attend. Or call 0330 053 9140, 9am to 5pm weekdays.

Upcoming dates for the workshop:

York - August 18 and September 20;

Stockton-On-Tees - August 11 and September 16;

Hull - August 14 and September 14;

Preston - September 6;
