A programme of nine new educational workshops takes place next month, some of which target new agents with little or no experience of deposits issues.
Hosted by SafeDeposits Scotland, a tenancy deposit protection scheme, two courses will be on offer; a Basic Workshop and a more advanced Making the Case for Deposit Deduction Workshop.
The Basic Workshop is designed for landlords and letting agents with little to no experience of tenancy deposit disputes.
Delegates will be presented with case studies of real disputes which have been referred to SafeDeposits Scotland’s adjudication service and outline how the adjudicator awarded the disputed amount.
The more advanced course for more experienced letting agents and landlords will aim to help attendees improve the way they present cases for deposit deductions to tenants and, if necessary, the adjudicator.
It will cover best practice and what can and cannot be claimed for under the tenancy deposit.
The events are next month in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and Dundee.
Paula Guthrie, adjudication account manager at SafeDeposits Scotland and the leader of the courses, says: “These courses will help landlords and agents all over Scotland provide a higher quality service to their tenants and better protect their own investments.
“Some landlords and letting agents make errors at the beginning of tenancies which can cause problems at the end of the lease agreement. The private rented sector is always evolving, so these courses are a great way to keep up to date with best practice and new legislation.”
