Data from Countrywide estate agents analysed by Hamptons International reveals that the average rent of a newly-let property in the UK is now almost exactly £1,000 pcm.
After a 2.3 per cent annual rise, the precise figure is £998 per month.
The highest rising areas were the south east and the south west of England - both saw annual increases in excess of five per cent.
Other areas - particular Wales, Scotland and the east and west Midlands, fell by as much as 3.5 per cent.
Aneisha Beveridge, head of research at Hamptons International, says: “Rental growth on newly let properties has doubled since August 2018. Rents rose 2.3 per cent in August, more than twice the one per cent recorded in August 2018.”
Here are the figures from Hamptons for UK regions for August 2019:
Greater London £1,737
South West £852
South East £1,112
Scotland £654
Midlands £685
