That’s grand: Countrywide says average new rent nears £1,000 pcm

Data from Countrywide estate agents analysed by Hamptons International reveals that the average rent of a newly-let property in the UK is now almost exactly £1,000 pcm.

After a 2.3 per cent annual rise, the precise figure is £998 per month. 

The highest rising areas were the south east and the south west of England - both saw annual increases in excess of five per cent.

Other areas - particular Wales, Scotland and the east and west Midlands, fell by as much as 3.5 per cent.

Aneisha Beveridge, head of research at Hamptons International, says: “Rental growth on newly let properties has doubled since August 2018. Rents rose 2.3 per cent in August, more than twice the one per cent recorded in August 2018.”
