Section 21 and rental legal threats under discussion ...

A property law expert is aiming to demystify the upcoming rental legislation for agents at a webinar tomorrow.

Robert Bolwell, senior partner at Dutton Gregory, will address a webinar hosted by Goodlord.

He will outline the latest developments on the Renters' Reform Bill following its inclusion in the recent Queen’s Speech, including the upcoming abolition of Section 21 and predicted changes to court proceedings that will happen as a result.

He will also discuss what applying the Decent Homes Standard to the private rented sector means for agents and their landlords, as well as the proposed increase to minimum energy efficiency standards and the new fire safety and carbon monoxide regulations.

Bolwell says: "Safety is the word of the moment when it comes to housing law, with the commencement of the Fire Safety Act 2021 and the provisional date of 1 October 2022 announced for the amended carbon monoxide and smoke alarm regulations to come into force.

“The Renters' Reform Bill White Paper will also bring about even more change in the coming years for the lettings sector. Agents need to help their landlords prepare in advance, so they aren't caught out - especially with the "property portal" under the Renters' Reform Bill anticipated to make tracking landlord compliance much easier for enforcement officials in the future."
