Alternative agents trade body to ARLA claims record membership

The UK Association of Letting Agents says it now has a record membership of 1,200.

UKALA describes itself as “a professional association that supports letting and management agent members to be successful, stay compliant and provide a high-quality service.”

Its membership fees are based on the amount of client money a member business holds, and it claims to make compliance easier by giving automatic membership to both a government-approved Client Money Protection scheme and an Independent Redress Scheme.

A statement from the trade group says the record membership means it can hold fees at the lowest of its bands for “the vast majority of members.”

Tim Clark, UKALA chairman, says: “These results are excellent, given the tumultuous few years we have just gone through. The figures have enabled us to hold costs of membership for another year for approximately 95 per cent of our members.

“As UKALA membership tends to appeal to the smaller agent, most of whom have had a very tough time recently as a result of the pandemic and the UK economy, no increase in subscription is more important to them than ever.

“We are delighted to have reached a record number of members. UKALA is a not for profit membership body, owned by our members, and helps to support them in being compliant, successful and professional.

“Any financial surplus is put back into improved membership services”
