A letting agent who alerted authorities to a gas leak has been praised for averting what could have been a major disaster.
Eighty homes in Llanelli, south Wales, had to be evacuated within a 100-metre radius.
Nicola Thomas, of Sharon David Estates, was checking the metres at three flats in the area. When she went to read one of them, she found it submerged in water.
She immediately contacted the gas board, while her boss, Sharon David, called the police.
Sharon has praised her team member. She said: “The police actually phoned me at home and said we want to thank you for ringing – you alleviated a major disaster from happening.”
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service led a multi-agency response, along with police and gas officials, evacuating residents to a leisure centre.
Three hours later, they were allowed to return to their homes after the situation had been made safe.

A submerged gas meter is dangerous then? I hadn't head this before.
Well done Nicola!

Personally, I would have preferred it if she was checking the feet and inches!
