Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of fraud following the closure of east of England letting agency Kirby Property Management.
The police say the 48 year old man from the St Neots area has now been released on bail, while police have executed four warrants at addresses in London and Cambridgeshire.
Late last month we reported the mysterious closure of the agency, which has three offices at Cambourne, St Neots and Cambridge.
We tried to contact the agency by telephone and email but without success, with telephone calls terminated by an automatic voice claiming “attendants” are not available to answer.
Local press reports suggest landlords and tenants have tried to discover the whereabouts of the company’s staff, but without success. NALS says it is willing to help victims.

It would be interesting to learn when NALS conducted their last audit of this firm before they pulled the plug in early July as my understanding is that membership is conditional on a regular accountants report being submitted.
It is becoming quite clear that these infamous audits are not quite as bullet proof as one might had hoped. I think the point is, regardless of whether there is a regular audit, if there is an intention to be fraudulent, it is not difficult to hide from an audit and the recent surge of letting agents clearing off with client accounts demonstrates how easy it is. http://www.lonsdaleib.com/our-business/chartered-surveyors-property-professionals/
Quite right, Oliver. Something needs to be done to beef these audits up because they're clearly not doing the job.
