Tenant's attack on letting agent 'was ignored by police'

A tenant has been found guilty of an assault of a letting agency staff member and has been ordered to do 80 hours unpaid work and pay £285 in costs, after an offence that appears to have been ignored by the police.

Luton Today reports that Dusty Asamoah, 22, flung a telephone handset toward Ultimate Connexions manager Sarbjit Bains and pushed her backwards on to a desk in a dispute over a deposit.

The accused denied committing the offence but has been found guilty by Luton Magistrates.

The publication reports that the incident happened last August. Bains told magistrates: “I asked [Asamoah] to sit and wait on a sofa but he didn’t want to get off my desk. He was getting annoyed. I was going to get my phone and then he flung it towards me. It just missed me and then like a mother, I said, ‘Who do you think you are’.”

Bains said Asamoah then confronted other staff coming to her aid. “I was petrified by then ... I stepped back from my desk. I thought he was going to kill me” she told the court.

Bains claimed that no fewer than 10 calls were made to police but no officers attended.

The dispute concerned a shared tenancy on a house in Luton, which had allegedly been left damaged and with three other tenants in arrears.
