Fraud probe launched against agent which owes thousands to clients

The police have launched a fraud probe against a Norfolk estate agency which closed in June

The Eastern Daily Press (EDP) reports that the Swaffham agency, eHomes Limited, owes around 40 clients thousands of pounds.

Those who are owed money are, however, reportedly yet to hear from detectives, despite contacting the Action Fraud hotline over three months ago.

eHomes is thought to have failed to pay landlords rent and neglected to protect tenants' deposits. Creditors are also chasing the firm for almost £40,000 through the courts.

Victoria Steele, the firm's director, is said to have gone abroad. The agent's previous business, Prestige Lettings and Management Limited, went into liquidation in 2015, owing creditors £100,000.

A number of landlords who are owed money from eHomes have told the EDP that they feel let down by Action Fraud over a lack of action on the case.

Some of them have taken the process into their own hands, taking out County Court Judgements to try and get their money returned.
