Self-employed Broker-style firm makes pitch to recruit letting agents

One of the first companies to promote the self-employed ‘broker’ business model is appealing to letting agents to sign up.

Harding Green was set up to cover primarily the central London market back in late summer 2017. It was the brainchild of Nick Carter, a former Chestertons agent.

Its commission structures for agents working under the brand - it calls them consultants -  range from 60 or 70 per cent, and extend to 80 per cent after a consultant has transacted over £120,000 in fees.

Now it has sent out a marketing round-robin says that some of its most successful agents are what it calls “historic letting agents.”

It continues: “ It's a huge advantage to having this industry experience when becoming a broker, as it is easier to transition those skills to sales and representing buyers for retained search. It also means you can hit the ground running and bring in fees quicker than you might from just in sales.

“One of our top brokers has a rent collection book of 46 properties (not including historic tenancies) they have built over the last two years, typically paying them daily.”

Harding Green says it trains all of its brokers to list lettings properties, and use PropTech to automate much of the process.

“Our rent platform automates paying our landlords and agents. We provide an in-house property manager. We onboard the landlord and oversee all compliance procedures” it adds.

The agency says it typically engages agents with a minimum of five to 10 years’ experience, although will consider people with as little as three years’ experience if they have other strong property-related characteristics.

It says if offers property professionals “the ability to launch their own business and work on a self-employed basis in their own part of town whilst combining a healthy work/life balance.”

To this end it claims it provides “the latest in technology, alongside unrivalled marketing and support which allows our agents to work from home, whilst also having unlimited access to our central London offices.”

It says this flexible model welcomes those who are looking for autonomy over their working week “and we have a number of new parents on board who are able to enjoy a fantastic balance between their professional and family life.”
