Agents to be trained in how to be “culturally competent”

The regulatory body for the private rental sector in Wales is offering letting agents a course in how to be “anti-racist and culturally competent”.

Rent Smart Wales describes the 90-minute course this way: “In a sector with so much demand, it is vital that landlords and agents have a secure understanding of their duties under the Equality Act and how to build a positive culture for Black and ethnic minority tenants in Wales.

“The Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan includes guidance for private sector landlords and agents - come to this session to learn how it applies to you.

“Join us with award-winning partners EYST to learn simple tips and insights about being anti-racist and culturally competent, so you can achieve equality best practice and maximise the chances of your tenancies running smoothly.

“You will leave with practical tips and insights, and an understanding of how to meet your legal duties around anti-racism.”

Rent Smart Wales, which is run across Wales through Cardiff Council, says the course will allow agents to “achieve equality best practice and maximise the chances of your tenancies running smoothly.”

And it promises that “you will leave with practical tips and insights, and an understanding of how to meet your legal duties around anti-racism.”
